Ride Etiquette

Here is a bit of information on 'Ride Etiquette' - helping 'Trains' to run smoothly
and enabling us to share the road safely with other vehicles.

We aim to create a friendly 'safety in numbers' space on the road to enable more people to commute by bike. We don't intend to hold up other road users. We do intend to be an assertive presence on the road - taking up one lane - no more.

We do have to state (unfortunately) that cyclists join the Bike Train 'at their own risk', so please read the below for your own and for others safety on the ride:

stay legal

We will stop at red lights. Please ride with care and attention.

Stay Together

We will go at a reasonable speed (not too slow and not too fast) but it's important
to keep together - keep up at the back, don't go too fast at the front. If the ride gets split at traffic lights, the forward section should either stop and wait, or continue slowly so that the rear section can catch up. This depends on the extent
of the split and what feels safest.

Stay Safe

We aim to be highly visible, if possible, wear hi-vis or colourful clothing and use
lights when its dark. Try not to go too near to the outer lane - so that other
vehicles can over-take easily. Staying two abreast is best is recommended in the Highway Code and minimises the risk from the outer lane of traffic. Stay out of
the cycle lane to enable other cyclists to overtake safely. If you hear an
emergency vehicle approaching, ensure to pull in to the side safely, to allow it to pass. Look out for each other, especially any children on the ride.

Stay friendly

Unfortunately sometimes motorists may act aggressively. Please try and keep
calm and friendly. We are completely legally within our rights to be on the road.

Sharing is Caring

Remember the road is a shared space. Keep an eye out for buses. They may be
big and heavy, but they provide great transport alternative's too! Give them
plenty of space to enable them pass the ride safely.

Enjoy the ride!
